The McHenry County Independants Vintage Base Ball Club concluded their season on a positive note, defeating the Plowboys for the second time this season in their tilt in DuPage County

Despite the outstanding defensive play of Scrappy in left field, the Plowboys built a large lead and grew confident of an easy victory. Even the historic battery of The Breadman and Gandy Dancer could not stop the flow of runs by the opposition. Little did the Plowboys know that Spur had more managerial maneuvers in his bag of tricks, reshuffling the teams defensive alignment.  The tightened up defense was only the beginning of the fireworks as the Independants, urged on by chants of IN DE PEN ANTS ! from the cranks on hand, had an explosion of offense – including a moonshot home run by Riff Raft. But the best was saved for last. Uncle, who had been patiently waiting all season, took to the pitching plate to hurl the onion.

With his well rested pitching arm delivering from the left side, Uncle dazzled the Plowboys and cooly went about his business retiring batter after batter. The dramatic ninth inning was highlighted by the octopus like defense of Pauly on the infield as the final out was recorded with the tying run at the plate.
